Securing What Feeds Us: A Conversation with Kristin King
In July, Coca-Cola told the SEC that attackers had reached production systems at its Fairlife dairy business. Every U.S. plant stopped. Weeks later, nobody outside the company could say cleanly whether the intrusion touched the plant floor or whether production halted because the systems feeding it went dark first. If you work in OT, you already know why that distinction matters, and why so few food and ag operators can answer it about their own facilities.

Food and agriculture rarely make the list when people picture OT security, and that’s exactly the problem. The Food and Ag-ISAC has tracked 220 ransomware attacks against food and beverage organizations in 2026 alone, involving 46 criminal groups, putting the sector close to its full-year 2025 total with five months still on the calendar. Most of those never make the news. The ones that do, JBS in 2021, Fairlife this summer, follow the same shape: enterprise systems get hit, production stops anyway, and the org chart turns out to be a poor map of what’s actually connected to what.
Samantha and Kristin will get into where the risk really lives across the food supply chain, from ag-tech in the field to processing, distribution, and retail, and what happens when food, water, and energy systems are all leaning on each other. Segmentation, third-party access, and knowing what’s actually on your network come up a lot in these conversations, mostly because they’re the things that separate the plants that keep running from the ones that don’t. Expect practical talk, not theory, and plenty of room for your questions.
